What was allotted
APCRDA earmarked 27.855 acres for the financial district: 9.695 acres for public-sector banks to build administrative, regional and zonal offices; 5.8 acres for allied institutions including the Reserve Bank of India, Life Insurance Corporation and the Income Tax department; and 11.56 acres for residential townships for bank and institution staff. Reports at the time put the combined project cost at about ₹1,334 crore and the expected employment at roughly 6,570 people.
Why banks matter more than they look
Regional and zonal offices bring salaried staff who need housing, schools and shops all year. They also mean bank branches with local lending appetite for the plots and homes around them. That is the mechanism by which a government town turns into a city, and it is why the master plan gave finance its own district rather than a floor in the Secretariat.
