The Amaravati Government Complex: what is rising on 1,350 acres
The precinct designed by Foster + Partners spans about 1,350 acres between Velagapudi, Rayapudi and Nelapadu. Four separate building programmes are under way inside it; this page links them together.

The interim complex that runs the state today
Everything above is permanent. The state is actually governed from the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi: six blocks totalling six lakh square feet, finished in 192 days and occupied from 3 October 2016. The interim Assembly next to it has hosted the Legislature since March 2017, and the High Court has worked from a G+2 building at Nelapadu since 1 January 2019. These buildings will keep working until the permanent ones open, which is why Velagapudi stays the busiest village in the capital.
Precinct features
- Navigable canals of over 15 km through the precinct and a riverfront developed for mixed use.
- A tier-2 infrastructure network of 147 km within the government complex, with district cooling planned.
- Layout of the Assembly, High Court and Secretariat finalised in October 2024; the towers are arranged along a 900 m by 139 m spine on both sides of the Pala Vagu.
