The High Court: at Nelapadu since 2019, permanent complex targeted for 2027
The judiciary was the first arm of the state to get its own new building in the capital. The second, much larger one is under construction beside it.

The building in use
The separate High Court of Andhra Pradesh was constituted by Presidential order on 1 January 2019 and sits at Nelapadu in the government complex. The building is G+2 with 23 court halls over about 2.2 lakh square feet, built by Larsen & Toubro on four acres at a cost of ₹157.3 crore. The court can have up to 37 judges. The Chief Justice of India laid the foundation stone for the permanent complex on 3 February 2019.
The permanent complex
- Two basement levels, ground and seven floors; nearly 45,000 tonnes of structural steel.
- Tendered together with the Assembly at an estimated ₹1,816 crore; foundation stone relaid at the 2 May 2025 relaunch; raft foundation completed in 2025.
- Targeted for completion in 2027.
- On 7 August 2026 the government approved a revised ₹206.59 crore design and consultancy package to accommodate an expanded High Court building, additional specialist consultants and faster design delivery.
Questions people ask
Is the AP High Court in Amaravati or Kurnool?
Amaravati. It has functioned at Nelapadu since 1 January 2019. The 2020 plan to move the judicial capital to Kurnool was withdrawn in 2021, and the 2026 central Act names Amaravati as the sole capital.
