Quantum Valley: the IBM quantum computer coming to Amaravati
On the same day the Prime Minister relaunched Amaravati, IBM, TCS and the state announced what they called India's largest quantum computer, for a new tech park in the capital. The building is nearly finished, and the start date has moved twice. The latest date the Chief Minister has given is 3 February 2027.

What is being installed
The machine is an IBM Quantum System Two built around a 156-qubit Heron processor, the same generation IBM runs in its own data centres. IBM supplies the hardware. Tata Consultancy Services writes the algorithms and the software that joins quantum and ordinary computers. Larsen & Toubro builds the park. The announcement on 2 May 2025 presented the machine as the centre of India's first tech park built for quantum computing, under the National Quantum Mission.

Why it matters for the capital
Quantum Valley is the first tenant that gives the Electronics City and Knowledge City themes a real address. The state expects the park to attract about $1 billion of investment, and the review of the Amaravati Government Complex in February 2026 put the quantum building on the priority list with the High Court and the Assembly. For landowners near the site the point is simpler. A large employer with an international name is committing to the capital before the roads are finished.

When will the Amaravati quantum computer start working?
IBM said it would be commissioned by September 2026. We have not seen a report that it was. The minister then said January 2027. On 3 October 2026 the Chief Minister gave 3 February 2027. Treat that as the current stated date until the machine is actually commissioned.
