Design
Foster + Partners designed the Assembly with Indian partners, drawing on the Kohinoor for its form. The plan is square and follows Vaastu: public entrance to the north, ministers' entrance to the east, Assembly chamber to the south-west, Council hall to the north-east and offices to the north-west, around a central courtyard for civic gatherings. The 250 m conical roof is meant to exceed the Statue of Unity in height and carries two viewing galleries, at 80 m and 250 m. Both chambers have glass walls; the building includes photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation, green roofs and water conservation systems.
Construction
- Built-up area about 1.1 million sq ft including 3 lakh sq ft of parking (APCRDA 2017 figures).
- APCRDA awarded the construction contract to Larsen & Toubro at ₹617 crore; the letter of award was presented on 20 April 2025.
- Construction began on 2 May 2025 with the Prime Minister's relaunch; the estimated completion date is 2028.
- Tendered alongside the High Court in a combined ₹1,816 crore package; the Assembly alone was estimated at ₹768 crore in tender reports.
