Amaravati Inner Ring Road: the capital's own ring road, to be built under PPP
The Inner Ring Road (IRR) is the ring road around the capital city. It joins the city's own road grid to the national highways. It stayed on paper for about ten years, and in February 2026 the state decided to build it with a private partner.

What is planned
APCRDA's IRR report proposes a road 75 metres wide. It meets the national highways at five points: twice on NH-16, twice on NH-65, and once where NH-30 joins NH-65 near Ibrahimpatnam. It is planned as an access-controlled ring for the capital city and the area just around it. It is a different road from the much larger Outer Ring Road that NHAI is building.
You will often see figures of 68 km and ₹3,500 crore for the IRR. We could not match them to a current official source, so we do not repeat them as fact. The final length, number of lanes and cost will be fixed when the PPP contract is awarded.
Where it stands
- 25 Feb 2026: the state announced that the IRR will be built under a public-private partnership. The private partner will be chosen by competitive bidding and paid through a mix of availability payments and user fees. The same announcement gave the capital's trunk roads an April 2027 deadline.
- Land: the Phase 2 land pooling of 2025-26 names the IRR as one of its purposes. Land in Vaddamanu, Harischandrapuram and Pedaparimi is part of that.
- August 2026: the CRDA authority approved land acquisition for the IRR. The Cabinet also approved pooling of 2,344 acres in Mothadaka for the IRR and the railway line, and APCRDA notified it later that month.
- 3 September 2026: the Cabinet approved pooling of another 6,212.50 acres in Kantheru and Tadikonda mandal for the IRR, a strip along the railway line and grid roads. See the new pooling round.
- Still to come: no private partner (concessionaire) had been named when we checked on 7 October 2026.

How long is the Amaravati Inner Ring Road?
The current official announcements do not give a final length. Older reports said 68 km, but we could not match that to the current plans. Treat it as an old figure until the PPP contract fixes the route.
