The international airport: what is decided, what is only reported
The airport is the most talked-about and least settled project in the capital. We separate the official steps from the widely shared master-plan graphics.

What is official
- March 2025: the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation tendered consultancy for a Technical and Economic Feasibility Report and a 35-year concept master plan for a greenfield international airport at Amaravati (and one in Srikakulam).
- 2025: the state's plan for seven new airports includes Amaravati alongside Dagadarthi, Kuppam, Srikakulam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Ongole and Anantapur.
- The Phase 2 land pooling orders list a greenfield international airport among purposes, with the airport expected in a subsequent pooling round. That round has not been notified, and the village list circulating for it is not confirmed.
- 22 August 2026: the MAUD minister said a final decision on the proposed airport would be taken subsequently.
What is reported, not yet notified
Accounts linked to APCRDA circulated a master-plan summary in November 2025: 4,618 acres near Ravela in Tadikonda mandal adjacent to the NH-544G expressway, a 4,000 m runway, Code 4F capability, a five-phase 60-year plan, a first phase of 2,643 acres with 22 stands and 6.3 million passengers a year at about ₹3,409 crore, growing to 105 million passengers. These are planning figures. No land notification for Ravela had been issued as of August 2026, and the earlier ₹4,700 crore phase-1 figure and a January 2029 opening date seen in some listings come from the same unofficial material.
The airport that exists
Vijayawada Airport at Gannavaram, about 45 km from Velagapudi by road, has international status since May 2017, a 3,360 m runway and an interim terminal opened in 2017; the first international flight left for Singapore on 4 December 2018. A Vijayawada Metro corridor from Gannavaram to the city is part of the approved phase 1.
